Welcome to The Vault Hair Studio

Before I introduce myself and the blog, I want you to take a deep breath, relax and get comfortable in that beautiful skin you are in.

Now that we are all feeling mighty chill, I can officially introduce myself. I am Abigail, the hair behind The Vault Hair Studio.

You can find me at my salon behind the chair eighty percent of the time. The other twenty percent, you will find me chasing my dog Scout, working on renovating my home or on my school bus tiny home, or traveling whenever my time off (or Covid) allows me.

Starting a blog is completely out of my comfort zone, or so I thought up until recently.

In 2020 the world flipped upside down globally. Every individual has been affected in every corner of this earth. It has been a time where we had to get creative with our education, professions, daily tasks, and pretty much every step of our daily routine. The world had shifted.

As a Hairstylist, I was one of the professions where we were deemed “non-essential”.  We were forced to stop making magic and put away the colour tubes for a while. This label of “non-essential” really hit me mentally. The profession I had worked SO hard at suddenly became something secondary in an instant.

After the reality of the catastrophic global pandemic settled in, I was able to see through the selfishness of my mindset and realize that we aren’t “non-essential”. We are adaptable and have to embrace the raging seas we are sailing my friends, because it’s going nowhere in a hurry.

2020 reaffirmed the passion I have for my craft. Providing colour services that can last six months (with the right home care *wink*) and enhance natural textures and colour patterns is something I’ve always loved, so what an amazing time to hone in on those skills and create.

Coming out of lockdown, I was inspired and full of new ideas and new ways to do hair, so onward with the hustle.

One of those crazy ideas was having my own studio so… BOOM. The Vault Hair Studio was born!

Kidding, it wasn’t that easy of course… but it was worth every late night and cup of coffee.

While working full time salon hours and teaching at Lambton college, I decided to take on the project of turning a vintage bank vault in the most beautiful boutique, Riverbank and Co, into a compact studio salon. As soon as I walked into Riverbank I felt completely at home. It was exactly where I was meant to be.

I knew designing this space was going to require a certain type of professional who shared my vision and bring it to life!

A phone call later, my beautiful friend Amy Marcelli (she’s simply the best at what she does) agreed to hop on my crazy train and put her epic design skills to work. Now here comes the actual BOOM. The Vault opened and my dream of creating a beautiful space for women to feel their best selves was a reality!

Now skip ahead three months into the hustle of business ownership and we close down... again. Stylists and many other professions are finding themselves unable to work yet again and the entire province is staying at home. So once more we are asked to support each other and get creative. This is where my online journal comes in. An online space where, no matter what the circumstances, we can connect and have a positive space to share and support women, and our hair, from home!

I will be diving deep into all things self-care, hair-care, sustainability and all things inner beauty. You will find care for all textures and lifestyles and be able to create your own regimen to help you navigate between appointment times, travel destinations, or just ease your daily styling routine.

My hope is to give you more space for the moments that matter most because let’s be for real… no one has time for a Kardashian blowout every morning and I get that.

My goal for you is to comment, share, and gain some experience and knowledge to support your tresses when I can’t be around, and you can’t visit the studio.

Let’s ride the tide through the tough swells of life together and keep each other afloat.

So, cheers to fantastic hair and open minds,

xoxo Abi
